Please share a memory of Rubyrose to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Rubyrose Vig December 29, 1927 – January 31, 2022 Rubyrose passed away peacefully at the age of 94 with her family by her side at Drayton Valley Long Term Care. Our wonderful mother was born on December 29th in Coronation Alberta in the back of a cutter in a blizzard to Albert and Elsie Benson joining her older sister Pearl to complete this small family. She was raised in Bentley Alberta and as a young woman waitressing in a café she met a handsome soldier named Chester Vig who pulled her apron strings each time she walked by, we can only imagine the sassy come backs she had for him. He won her heart and they were soon married. Mom was embraced by Dad’s large, close farm family, which she loved as dearly as her own. Rubyrose and Chester raised their own growing family in Ponoka, Nordegg and finally settled in Drayton Valley in 1955. A long time resident of Drayton Valley and a member of The Church of God, Rubyrose worked at the Town of Drayton Valley at the skating arena and the Swimming pool, moving on to her last job at The Bay. She was also a dedicated volunteer at the Hospital Auxiliary for many years. Rubyrose was very creative and artistic, enjoying many many hobbies and crafts, her hands were never idle. She also loved playing many games. However Mom’s number one love was always her family, nurturing a close and loving family through hosting family events and picnics. She created a warm and inviting home where the coffee was always on and the laughter abundant. She had a wonderful sense of humour and a devilish twinkle in her eye. Some of the many gifts mom left us are; a hard work ethic, honesty, integrity, a love of children, a wonderful sense of humour and a love for each other. We attribute our close loving family to the time and effort she put into creating it, it was the best gift she gave us. Mom was predeceased by her husband Chester, Grandson Darren Wood, Great Grand Daughter Marina McQuaig and Daughter in law Edel Vig. Left to carry on Mom’s legacy is her Daughter Faythe Vig (Tom Armagost), Harley Vig and his dear friend Ruth Wagner. Karmyn James (Wilf), Gayleen Blais (Alex), Kelly Starling (David). 13 Grandchildren, 31 Great Grandchildren, 6 Great Great Grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held in August with her family. If friends so desire, memorial donations in her memory can be made to the Drayton Valley Long Term Care facility at: 4550 Madsen Ave, Drayton Valley T7A 1N8, Where she enjoyed excellent care from the kind and loving staff under the guidance of Dr. Anthony Froud. Her family will forever be grateful to Dr. Froud and the Staff at the Long Term Care.
