Obituary of Derek Ryan Bolianatz

Derek Ryan Bolianatz was born on April 20, 1957 in Edmonton, Alberta. He left us on January 9, 2022 at the age of 64. Derek is survived by his son Nikolas (Melanie), older brother Doug (Paulette), sister Wendy, and younger brother Todd (Jen), as well as nieces Cora (Johnny), Alyssa, Stefanie, and Genoa. Derek is also survived by great nephew Oliver and great niece Carys, uncles Neil (Yvonne), Randy (Ellen) aunts Norma Neumann, Bev Voigt and Gina Bolianatz plus many, many cousins. Derek was predeceased by his beloved parents Gilbert Duane and Hazel Lilly Bolianatz. Derek loved his family dearly. He was generous, intelligent and industrious. He was a principled man who was studious in many interests including nature and wildlife preservation and human justice. Derek valued hard work and through his efforts he bought his first property at age 21. He studied Engineering Technology and used his skills and ingenuity to achieve a successful career supporting the oil and gas industry. This allowed him to retire early and in 2009 move out to the section of land he bought. He truly loved the great outdoors and being a man of the land. Despite all of his success, raising his son Nikolas was his greatest joy and source of pride. Derek was a caring brother always willing to teach, learn and have fun and adventures with his siblings. He carried these characteristics on in his relationships with his nieces, and with his great nephew and niece. Derek had a special relationship with his great nephew Oliver. Derek will be missed by all his family, friends and neighbors. As per his wishes there will be no public memorial service held.
