Obituary of Luke Gurnick

Please share a memory of Luke to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of a dear father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend, Luke Gurnick, at Drayton Valley Hospital and Care Centre on the afternoon of Sunday, December 26, 2021, with his family by his side. Luke was a long-time resident of Drayton Valley enjoying hunting and fishing with family and friends. He also enjoyed spending days on the acreage, a chance to get away from town life. Luke was a student, a sawmill worker, farmer, business owner of a wireline company, and operator and manager of a hydro-test company in Drayton Valley. He loved running a tractor and D6 Cat right up to the age of 88 years. Luke loved playing pranks whenever the opportunity arose and had a sarcastic sense of humor that always made people laugh. His laughter will be missed by his children; Adrian, Lloyd (Arlene), Missy (Grant), and Denise (Edward), as well as by grandchildren; Breton aka Brittany (Michael), David, Gabby, Leo, Linden, Rachel (Dallas), Ryan and Rylee, and one great grandchild, Nevaeh. He will be lovingly remembered by brothers, Frank and Edward (Leslie Anne) as well as nieces and nephews; Caroline (Wendell), Brooklyn, Nathan and Maisey, Dan, Mike (Miho), Daniel, Sophie, and too many friends to mention. Luke is predeceased by his wife, Mary Jane, as well as his parents; Felix and Katie, and siblings; John, Michael, Adolph, Albert, and Helen and one great nephew, Greg. The family extends a thank you to all nurses and support staff at Drayton Valley Hospital for their exceptional care and to Audrey and Ed Seniuk for opening up their home and hearts to the family during Luke’s hospital stay; your friendship and hospitality is truly appreciated. Special thanks to Luke’s long-time friend, Jeff Cartwright, who looked after Luke for many months prior to his hospitalization. Visitation will be held at Affinity Funeral Chapel on January 2, 2022 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 4708- 50 Ave, Drayton Valley, on Monday, January 3, 2022, at 1:00 pm with Father Dan Gurnick OFM officiating. We regret that attendance will be limited to family and close friends as capacity at the church will be limited to 50 attendees.
