Obituary of Raymond Frederick Soper

Please share a memory of Raymond to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
The family of Raymond Frederick Soper are saddened to announce his passing at Whitecourt Healthcare Centre on Saturday, September 11, 2021, at the age of 76 years. Ray was born in Edmonton, Alberta where he fell in love and married his high school sweetheart, Darlene. They moved to Whitecourt to begin his career at Millar Western in 1984 as an Electrical Instrumentation Technician ending his career at ANC. Ray’s strong work ethic led him to earn the nickname “energizer bunny" he was known as a real go getter who would never rest. Even with his arm in a sling it didn’t stop him from washing and waxing their 40ft motorhome. Ray and Darlene enjoyed camping so much they became members of an RV Club. They made beautiful memories with family travelling across Canada and the USA. Ray had a love for technology, he loved to learn and be the first to own the latest technologies including the Tandy Computer. Ray was an introvert, not a man of many words, but when he did speak it was important and you’d better listen. Christmas at the Soper residence was a big deal, Ray loved giving gifts. As their family grew, two trees were necessary for all the gifts. As quickly as the gifts were being opened, he would just as quickly be picking up the ripped paper. Ray will forever be missed and remembered by his wife Darlene of 58 years and his favourite dog Cooper; children, Kelly (Amber) Soper, Shannon Soper, Erin Soper, and Norman Lanctot; 13 grandchildren Julie, Kevin, Sabrina, Jakob, Samantha, Colton, Taylor, Morgan, Anthony, Wesley, Lincoln, Olivia, Shawn; 2 great-grandchildren Haven and Dallas as well as by extended family and life-long friends. Ray was predeceased by his daughter Susan Lanctot and parents Wilfred and Irene Soper. A private family graveside service will be held at The Whitecourt Cemetery. Ray’s family wish to extend their great appreciation to Dr. Halladay, Nurses and hospital staff for going above and beyond to ensure comfort and compassion. As a gesture of gratitude, memorial contributions in Ray’s name may be made directly to the Whitecourt Healthcare Centre. Condolences may be sent to www.affinityfuneralservice.ca
