Obituary of Derek John Henningsmoen

Derek Henningsmoen August 31, 1955 – July 6, 2021 It is with a heavy heart that we share the sad news that Derek Henningsmoen has passed away at the age of 65 years old. Derek was a loving father, and a trusted friend, who was honest, gentle, funny, and kind to everybody he met. He loved his family above all else. He had an obsession with Harley Davidson motorcycles, and he cherished all of his memories of cross-country road trips on his bike, where he enjoyed meeting new friends in all the many places he visited. Derek also loved music, playing the drums, was a self-proclaimed handyman, and a Star Trek fanatic. Derek is survived by his ex-wife & best friend, Sandy, and their two sons, Erik and Brandon. He will be lovingly remembered by his half-sister, Carol, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews as well as his cat Missy. Derek was predeceased by his parents Karsten and Isabelle Henningsmoen. Derek’s family would like to thank everyone at Drayton Valley Mental Health, Drayton Valley Homecare, and Meals on Wheels for their friendship & caring for Derek for many years. He truly did appreciate everything you did for him, and he loved you all. It is in this spirit of gratitude that the family ask that in lieu of flowers, to instead make donations to The Schizophrenia Society of Canada, 103 Harvest Drive, Steinbach, Manitoba, R5G 2C6 or a charity of one's choice. A celebration of Derek’s life is planned in Drayton Valley Lions Park for July 24, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. Please bring your lawn chair. If weather is inclement, please check for alternate location.
