Obituary of Eva Ibolya Sporeth

Please share a memory of Eva to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Sporeth, Eva Ibolya August 30, 1936 – May 15, 2021 With much love and great sadness, we announce that Eva Sporeth (nee Kardos) passed away on May 15, 2021 at the Drayton Valley Hospital. Eva was born in Budapest, Hungary; the cherished only child of her mother, Veronika Beres, and her stepfather, Joseph Bognar. As a young adult, Eva loved performing with a Hungarian folk-dance group. She came to Canada as a refugee in 1957, fleeing from the Hungarian Revolution. She was proud and grateful to become a Canadian citizen, but never forgot her Hungarian roots. Soon after, she met and married Joe Sporeth, and together they settled in Calgary and raised their family. Possessed with a strong work ethic and excellent organizational skills, Eva worked hard and made countless sacrifices throughout her life to provide for her family. For many years, she immaculately cleaned other people’s homes, as well as her own. She was an avid reader and enjoyed doing Hungarian crossword puzzles. Together with her daughter, Eva loved attending Broadway musicals and marching band competitions and “going for lunch”. She also loved spending time in the mountains (even though she was afraid driving through them), but she was happiest when visiting with family and friends over a cup of coffee and a cigarette. Eva will be remembered for her sense of humor, her beautiful smile, her loyalty and generosity, and her amazing Hungarian cooking and baking. Neighbors and visitors were often treated to her home-made bread and baking. Her adult children always left her home laden with care-packages of delicious food; all prepared with loving hands. She was a selfless and kind-hearted person who put the needs of others before her own, and she truly loved her children, their spouses and her grandson, unconditionally. Left to mourn Eva’s passing are her daughter, Gabriella (Gabe); son-in-law, Tim Frey; and her precious grandson, Danny Frey, all of Drayton Valley, Alberta. We fondly acknowledge Eva’s dear and life-long friends, Eva Samu and the late Katalin Fonnyadt. Eva was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Joseph, in October 2020; and her beloved son, Tom, in 2000. Our family is grateful to the many wonderful healthcare professionals who cared for our mother as she struggled with her various health issues. Special thanks to Dr. Botes and the staff at the Drayton Valley Hospital and a number of ambulance crews for their exceptional care and compassion. A private family service will be held later this summer. Thank-you Mama, Ma, Nagymama, and dear friend! How we will miss you and how blessed we were to have you in our lives.
