Vinnia “Vin” Dykes
March 11, 1929 – April 16, 2021
Vinnia was born in Denmark on March 11, 1929, the youngest of a family of seven girls and one brother and passed away peacefully in Drayton Valley on April 16th, 2021 at the age of 92 years. Vinnia was predeceased by her parents, Kristine and Christian Jacobsen, her husband, Irwin, and her siblings: Anna Jensen, Marie Andersen, Sylvia Card, Clara Petersen, Edith Dodd, Alma Caffelle, and Eskild Jacobsen.
Vinnia was loved by many, and will be especially missed by her children; Ronald (Vicki) Dykes, Deborah (Michael) Dickison, Robert Dykes, and Emmanuelle (Larry) Nixon. Also mourning her loss are twelve grandchildren; Corey Burchnall, Elysha (Darcy) Tymko, Kristin (Jason) Burchnall, Melissa (Curtis) Thiessen, Chelsea (Gord) Bos, Krissy Hines, Stacey (Okeito) Dykes, Dustin (Rachel) Hines, Matthew (Gillian) Lemishka, Jordan (Stephanie) Dykes, Brandi (Karl) Tobler, Brittany (Colin) Dykes, as well as 27 great grandchildren. She was also surrogate grandma to Lee- Adele and Michael Shykora.
Vinnia had a strong faith and was famous for her love of life and people. She treasured time spent with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Vin loved babies and generously provided foster homes to 17 children.
A visitation for those wishing to pay their respects to Vinnia will be held at Emmaus Lutheran Church, 4604 50 Ave, in Drayton Valley on April 23, 2021 from 12:00 pm to 12:45 pm. Following the visitation, a private family service will be held at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Robert Marshall officiating. Internment will follow at Riverview Cemetery, Drayton Valley. In order to accommodate Covid-19 restrictions and those who are unable to attend, the service will be livestreamed on this site and maintained for 90 days following the service.
