Obituary of Allan "Al" Glenson Wheeler

Please share a memory of Allan "Al" to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Allan “Al” Glenson Wheeler April 29, 1945 – June 16, 2021 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Al Wheeler in Whitecourt on Wednesday, June 16, 2021, at the age of 76 years. Al is better known as Poppa Wheelie in the community and to his family and friends. Born in Guelph, Ontario, Al skidded logs with horses in his early life. Pumping gas led him to his start in mechanics, he then went on to work with the Department of Highways. His adventurous spirit along with a passion for anything with a motor, led him to a career in auto mechanics in which he acquired dual tickets. Al married Sandy “Momma Duck” July 4, 1970, soon after came Kevin and Wayne. Al and Sandy wanted more opportunity for their two boys, also known as his “pit crew” so they made their way out to Alberta for an improved life. Al and Sandy purchased a farm south of Mayerthorpe where he started Wheeler’s Auto Klinic. Al could fix anything. His knowledgeable reputation left him as the go to guy in the community. He also practiced sharing his knowledge as the Automotive Tech Instructor at Mayerthorpe High School and serving as Chairman of the Apprenticeship Board. Al also contributed to the community as Boy Scout Leader and Equipment Manager for Minor Hockey. We will smile as we remember his passion for family, speed, racing stock cars and motorcycle adventures. Al will forever be lovingly remembered by his wife and friend, Sandy; his pit crew, Kevin, (Sharon) Wayne (Michelle); grandchildren Alyssa (Clayton), Chase, Cruz, Zoey; great-grandchild Landon; brother, Harry (Michelle) Wheeler as well as extended family and friends. A private celebration of Al’s life will be held Saturday, July 10th at his eldest son’s residence. A special thank you to the healthcare workers and community for the love and support displayed during this difficult time. Arrangements in care of Mykenna Cabral at: Affinity Funeral Service #1, 4015 41st Avenue, Whitecourt, Alberta, T7S 0A3 780.778.3330
