Obituary of Barbara Edith Cox

Please share a memory of Barbara to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Barbara Edith Cox March 29, 1930 – November 13, 2023 It is with sad and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Barbara Edith Cox, on Monday, November 13, 2023, at Camrose Hospital, with family by her side, at the age of 93 years. Barbara was selfless, always putting everyone before herself. She radiated kindness and love, offering support and encouragement to her family and all she knew. She was the rock of her family. A constant source of unconditional love and support. She enjoyed phone calls and visits with them, and being a part of anything happening in their lives. Spending time with family was one of her favourite things to do. Her genuineness and sense of humor brought all who knew her at ease and felt like they had known her forever. Barbara was witty and had a mischievous side that brought much laughter and happiness to all who knew her. When you saw the twinkle in her eye, you knew that she was up to something that would bring some type of amusement. Her compassionate heart and being a bit of a social butterfly, made her a friend to everyone who was lucky to have known her. Barbara was game to try almost anything and did. Over the years she could be seen at curling rinks, fishing in the summer or winter, playing piano, baking, playing a game or two of cards, camping and garage sales. She had a creative side that was seen in the dish towels she knitted for family and friends, many crafts she made, pictures she painted and her beautiful flower gardens she loved. Barbara was especially proud of the time she spent volunteering in service to others. She spent time volunteering at the Drayton Valley Hospital and Care Center, the Drayton Valley Museum and The Auxiliary Thrift Store. Many special friendships were made at the Thrift Store that were truly treasured by Barbara. Being modest, Barbara did not think of herself as anything special, but she truly was in the life that she lived and to the people who knew her. Her family loved her beyond measure as did the people she knew throughout the years, many feeling they have lost a mom with her passing. Barbara will be greatly missed in the lives of all who knew her. Barbara’s life will continue to be celebrated and remembered by her children, Tim (Rosalia), Sheila (Leonard), James (Jacqueline), Robert (Debi) and Susan (Colin); grandchildren, Sara, Kenneth, Tamara (Raymond), Stephanie, Christopher (Carley), Meggan (Steve), Thomas, Landen (Krista), Daylen (Caitlin), Erica, BreAnne, and Tanner; great-grandchildren, Ayden, Nevaeh, Keaton, Jonas, Midori, Mason, Oaklen, Lochlen, and Rhylen. Barbara was predeceased by her husband, Fredrick Cox, great-grandson Keeryn, brothers Martin and Jasper and her parents David and Edith Peck. Special thanks to Seasons Retirement Community for the care you gave Mom. Many of you held a special place in her heart. A Celebration of Life for Barbara will take place on Thursday, November 23, 2023, 1:00 p.m. at the Mackenzie Conference Center. Barbara was a caring and kind person, and it is in this spirit that the family would ask that in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Barbara’s name to the Drayton Valley Food Bank.
