A man of humor, caring and a curious inquiring mind. A good friend to Dan and myself in the last ten years. I know he is looking down on his family friends with great delight and is in the process of finding all the answers to his questions while meeting a lifetime of heroes.
See you on the flip side one day Bob!

I must have met Bob soon after buying my first MGB in the early 80´s. At the time I was a Transit driver and would often pop over to Bob´s shop between shifts to buy bits, ask questions, or just look at old cars under tarps. Bob would always be friendly and have that wonderful smile on his face. He always had time for you, even if there was work waiting in his crowded workshop. His shop was always like an Aladdins Cave to me and full of interesting cars that fired my imagination.
At one point I had moved to BC for about 14 years, but I heard that Bob had moved to Whitecourt. Eventually I returned to Edmonton, bought another MG, (or two), and a few years ago resumed contact with Bob.
A few years ago I started to drive up to see him, often with one or two friends, and was very fortunate to be able to spend several hours enjoying his company and talking about a variety of things. His acreage and buildings provided me again with the opportunity to poke about among the sort of stuff I loved, and occasionally buy a few needed bits for my own cars. The trip where Bob sold me a White hardtop for my Red MGB will always be a fond memory.
On another trip, the alternator on the MGB died, but Bob soon had another one installed from his shed.
I don´t think I have ever met a person who exuded such a feeling of calm, welcoming, friendship and warmth as Bob did.
In the last year, after his cancer diagnosis, I got to know Brenda as well. As we were, at that time, both Caregivers we had much in common.
I know I was only one of the multitude of people that called Bob a friend and was fortunate to be able to share joy and laughter over many things.
I can imagine Bob starting on a new collection of interesting cars and bits for when we meet again.
Till we meet again my good friend.
Harry Midgley

Hello. I am saddened to hear of Bob’s passing. I knew Bob through our shared love of working on British cars. Whenever I came to Whitecourt to visit my son and daughter I always visited Bob to see what project he was working on. He was very knowledgeable and ready to help. I wished I lived closer. I enjoyed talking with him. The last time I visited him was in 2019 because of the pandemic. I went to his home three times this week and finally came across a neighbour that told me of Bob’s death. Certainly I would like to attend the celebration of life but I need to go back home to Newfoundland at the end of May.

Bob was my introduction to British sports cars, and was my first and only employer as I started and completed my apprenticeship. He was an important part of my early adult life, and taught me so much.
His love of aircraft also rubbed off on me as he would often call me to take a quick trip to the municipal airport to see and photograph old WW2 fighter planes arriving or taking off.
Bob was also instrumental in my indoctrination into the world of British comedy. I have many fond memories of working with Bob, and Dean Yustak, in the first location for Hawkins Auto, listening and laughing to tapes of Monty Python. We shared the same sense of humour.
Bob was a true friend and always supportive. You will be missed.
