I wanted to send my sincere condolences to all of you on the loss of Claude. He was an amazing man and loved by all. I am Fred Tookey's daughter and have known Claude for at least 58 years. We vacationed with Claude and Vivian and their family many times over the years and Claude always had a smile on his face and laughter in his voice. He was the kindest man I know. I stopped in to see him and to bring Margie to visit and he made sure to introduce us to everyone so that we would not feel left out. Always so aware of everyone. "Rest in Peace Claude, God Bless"

Grandpa Gould
He always had family as the most important thing and one thing that always stood out to me was at every big family dinner he would fall asleep in his chair and the smile on his face when he woke up and everyone was still there was priceless. He will be missed but the values he taught us on what is truly important in life will be with us and help guide future generations to success.
He also had such a desire to prepare for any disaster/ event you could encounter (some may call it hoarding). I think his moto was when garage is full you park outside and when the shed is full you build another.
I remember helping him change a tire on that silver van AKA the mobile survival shelter, it took a lot of digging to get to the spare. I believe he had 6 survival kits in there for all disasters you may find in every corner of the globe except Alberta including tornado’s, Tsunamis, Hurricanes and Earthquakes. I asked him why so many and he just said “well you just never know”
Rest In Peace Grandpa and thank you for all you have done for the Gould clan

Claude, I will remember most your devotion to family, your hard work, decency, and your willingness to help others. I am so glad that we were able to reconnect these last few years and I will warmly recall the lovely visit Jonathan and I had with you just a few weeks ago.
May you be at peace,

Grandpa, it’s hard to think of you without thinking of Grandma. The two of you always seemed like an inseparable duo. Honestly, more like a single entity, in my mind, than two individuals. I know you shared a genuine love, and it echoed through our family. It echoes still. Thank you for lighting a path and providing that foundation to so many of our kin.
It’s not the sort of thing that felt right to talk about while you were here, but I was always heartbroken for you that you’d lost her. With all my heart I hope that you’ve now found her again. Be well, and until I see you both once more.
Love, Jonathan
The Rainbow comes and goes,
And lovely is the Rose,
The Moon doth with delight
Look around her when the heavens are bare,
Waters on a starry night
Are beautiful and fair;
The sunshine is a glorious birth;
But yet I know, where’er I go,
That there hath past away a glory from the earth.

I would like to share my memories for Mr.Claude Gould, he is one of my favorite resident at the lodge. I always ask for any advice from him especially regarding mortgage and insurance. I always remember my dad from him because he is a clever man. He made me my requested Wooden Stick with my name on it and also wooden crucifix necklace. We have lots of laughter inside his room every time I go see him. I remember how he appreciate how I massage his feet and such a very thoughtful man to all of us. Every Christmas there is always Costco gift basket. He always make sure to print a greeting letter for every birthday celebrant. Sorry Mr. Gould I didn’t able to see you again that morning when you handed to Joan the birthday card you prepared for me, but I really appreciate your advance greeting to me day ahead. I will forever miss you and thank you for everything.

Grandpa,
You have always been a constant for me in my life. It never mattered how inconvenient my arrival had been, you would have never let me know. You always made time for me, and always made me feel important. My child hood is surrounded by memories of both you and Grandma, and when I look back I feel so incredibly lucky for my experiences. I was truly blessed to have you as a role model in my life, and I feel so lucky that my children had a chance to get to know you and felt your impact. Our world appears to be in great need of people of your character and we can all make it better if we follow your example.
It is obvious how many lives you have touched. Honesty, Integrity, and service(the first words we burned into my very first scout stave using a magnifying glass in the sun). Not a wonder you have made so many respected friends, and were trusted by so many. You were a model to follow, and leave such large shoes to fill. Thank you so much for all the memories, ( scout pancakes, Christmas lights half burnt out, a garbage can empty and a basement full, a pool table on a slope, a garage with doors that never closed, a basement that always flooded, a roof that occasionally leaked, always a vehicle with a baseball bat( just in case someone had a ball game), most importantly a smile that never ended, the patience of the mountains, and the intentions of a saint.
Thank you for who you were and what you have left us.

It's never easy saying Good-Bye to a person such as you!
As long as we can remember, you've been in our lives all along, we have an ever lasting memory with Uncle Claude and Aunt Viv, as we shared wedding anniversaries days apart. The day we got married in May 1977 was 25 years prior to the weekend that they were married. We remember at our reception, Uncle Claude stood up and gave us their blessings. So in turn his sister Margaret rekindled a few memories for Uncle Claude and Aunt Viv, congratulating them on their 25th Anniversary, with a cake. It was a celebration all way around!
We remember the overnight stays when Uncle Claude and Aunt Viv came in to the city and the next day we would take up a round of golf, have bbq's or go to a drive-in-movie... When they could attend any celebration with the family they would be there, always bringing their kindness, as well as bringing a very funny and lovable homemade card.
We consider Uncle Claude a historian, he put together a list of friends and family with their names, birth dates, wedding dates and date of death list and was kind enough to share it with us. This was not any easy task, he must have spent hours putting it together.
Uncle Claude was a gentle man, a businessman, and lived by his motto of: Honesty, Integrity and Service to Others.
Uncle Claude, we will miss you, your kind words of wisdom, and not receiving your special messages that you would email.
Forever in Our Hearts

I have had the privilege of knowing Claude for quite a number of years. The motto his business was founded on was "Honesty, Integrity & Service". Not only was that a foundation for the family business he ran, but also the motto by which he led his life. He would always put other individuals needs before his own. Countless number of hours he spent on helping out as best he could. You were always welcome to whatever it is he had, and how many times would he say "don't go and buy one, I know I have one somewhere". Every Dodge Caravan was always stocked with a number of items he felt were a necessity . These often consisted of at least 1/2 dozen pens and notebooks in his shirt pocket and a pocketful of items such as pocket knife, paperclips, nail clippers, screws etc. etc. He must have picked that up from the old Boy Scouts motto "Be Prepared".
I will miss you Claude and to summarize your life "It's not what you take in life, but what you leave behind." I thank you for the influence you have had on me, and made be a better human because of it. When I find myself saddened by your passing all I need to do is remind myself of the great gift you left us with. That is the part of you that lives on in your children and grand children. Thankyou for being a part of my life Claude, and may you rest in peace.

"Honesty, Integrity and Service, I was alright as long as I paddled my own canoe, Better put away another 10% now that the NDP have gotten in". I always valued Grandpas advice and over the years it proved to be invaluable. That's one of the things that has sunken in over the last few days, I wont be able to turn to you for advice, or prank call you or visit for coffee. I'm happy to know your in a better place, I'm happy to know your dancing with Grandma somewhere, I'm happy to know all of your physical ailments don't bug you anymore, but as happy as I am, I'm also sad to know your gone. I think the worst thing about getting older is seeing the people you think the most about pass on. They don't make people like they used to anymore. People don't get into politics for the right reasons anymore, people don't volunteer endless hours of time for just causes anymore, but you always did, you always thought of others before yourself. I hope you'll both look down and be proud of us and how we are living, I hope you'll be proud my kids and my nieces and nephew and I hope that when my ship comes in that I will be as rich as you were.
Rest Easy CHG

Grandpa Gould,
I have so many fond memories of you and Grandma. I still remember cruising around with you in your silver Dodge van hanging up Real Estate signs (GOULD REALTY). I remember you had asked me to go to the back of the van and grab a hammer but all I could find was a baseball bat, I asked you what the bat was for and your reply was "JUST IN CASE I NEED TO USE IT ON SOMEONE". You always surprised me with the amount of "STUFF" you would pack!
I enjoyed being your Grandson and just being around you, whether we were cleaning up your old office in Mayerthorpe, or re-organizing your garage for the fifth time, or strolling by that barrel of cement in your tear drop and you saying " HEY GRAB THAT CROW BAR AND TAKE A FEW CHIPS OF CONCRETE OUT, EVENTUALLY WE WILL GET IT". Thanks for being a Great Grandfather you will be missed but not forgotten.

One of memories with my great grandpa is this one… at my family cabin we just built an extra house and I was so excited to show him. As soon as he got to the cabin I grabbed his hand and pulled him around. (Black and white photo)
Another memory I have with great grandpa was last summer(2022). He came out to my aunty and uncles place and he told us what it was like back in his days and he also showed us how to make bannock on a stick over a fire. (Which was sooo yummy)

What can I say about Claude Gould the kindest, most gentle soul I have ever had the pleasure to call family…? He never made a anyone feel unwelcome.
He had a great love for nature and always fed the birds around his place. His adventures camping and holidaying led to many moments of laughter and delight. I still have fond memories of him and Vivian dancing on our patio at the lake with friends. In his own way he was a leader and respected man for all he implemented in business and around town.
He would always “puff up” a bit when talking about his Children and Grandchildren and their ventures. He was so incredibly proud of his kin.
Claude had a infinite curiosity regarding folks he knew and their family histories. He was always researching their roots, digging up old photos.
My heart will forever have a void with the passing of our beloved father and family patriarch.
I know you are dancing in heaven with Mom, Dad.
Miss you already, Gail

My Great Grandpa was one great person, he had such a wonderful impact on everyone around him. One of the best memories I have of him is when we were up in Whitecourt for a family camping trip last July. It was a really nice night and Great Grandpa came out for a Canada Day Party. Great Grandpa was so happy to be out there with everyone and when my Mom suggested making dough boys he lit up. He and my Papa carved the sticks for everyone to use and I remember whenever someone tried to do it for him he would shoo them away and continue to carve! His knife wasn't very sharp so it took him a little longer but when Papa asked if Great Grandpa wanted a better knife he said "this knife is perfectly fine!" That made everyone laugh. Great Grandpa was a brave, kind, sweet, and caring man, he won't be forgotten and we won't stop telling his stories.
In loving memory of Claude Gould

Dear Great Grandpa,
I don't like when this happens but I have to remind myself that it's the circle of life and that it will happen to all of us one day. I barely got to see him, but when I did I will remember forever. I don't just have one favourite memory of him, but if I had to choose it would be when I wrote him a letter and he would write back and I could never understand his handwriting so I would always ask Mom to read it. When she was reading it I would imagine Great Grandpa was writing it and then reading it to me. He would tell me all his cool stories from when he was 11, my age. One story from when he was 11 was his house burning down and the only thing he saved was his violin. I will always remember him as a joyful man who loved to spread happiness.
Love Vanesa

Hey Great Grandpa. I remember the first time I met you when Jessie and I did a tour up from Calgary. It was summer 2001, June 11. I even have a pic from that day to share :-) We were just dating and she took me to meet you and Viv. We pulled up in Jessies sweet Purple Tiburon with three spoke rims. We smelled like campfire smoke and looked like we had slept outside the night before and we had. You and Viv welcomed us inside and we had our first talk and that's when I learned that your memory exceeded that of a Pentium computer. Story telling ability level 10 then followed and I listened eagerly to memories that weaved and flowed back through the years about your time growing up in the area, meeting and marrying Viv, raising a family and then Jessies generation and Cousins. From then on, that is always what I looked forward to hearing whenever we would see you. Stories and History. You were always, always talking and sharing the stories and history of the family. This is so important!!! Over the years that followed, whenever you were looking to speak with Jessie, you always called my number looking for her. I think you must have had my number in her address book slot. But that meant you and I got to speak to each other a few times a year and I would ALWAYS ask you "whats new up in Whitecourt" and then you would fire up the story telling Level 10 and so even through the years later as I was busy in my Career and Family building I would *still* get to hear more stories from you during those phone calls. :-) I won't forget them!
And, then you and our Vanesa in her 10th and 11th year began to pen pal each other. Somewhere around 4 or 5 letters between the two of you were shared and that was you continuing on to do what you do, Vanesa learned about the history of the family in the area from these letters and she looked forward to receiving them and writing back.
Thnx for always being the Grandfather who purposely passed his knowledge and stories to the next generation. Love to all the family! Ryan M.
- pic attached is from the Day I met Great Grandpa and Great Grandma. They thought it was pretty cool that Jessie and I were in Geology together and they had to take me to The Rock to show it off!

Grandpa, always had the best laugh and twinkle in his eye (especially when he was playing a joke or sneaking a cookie). He loved being around his family and taught us how important family, honesty, and integrity are. He always went above and beyond to help anyone in need. My first summer job working for him I saw firsthand how often people came for help, he was very patient, would give each person his full attention, and all the time and help they needed. It didn't matter if you were family or a stranger Grandpa made time for you and was genuinely interested in what was going on in your life.
His memory was phenomenal, he could recall any day in history when he was a boy and what had happened and who he was with. He was very excited about history and sharing all his experiences. Grandpa stood up for people who needed protecting, he was constantly writing letters to our government when he felt they were doing something that was not in the peoples best interest.
To the man with the biggest heart and a twinkle in his eye, we miss you. . .

It is neat how grandparents touch your life. From Egg hunts and family get togethers, to bannock around the campfire. He never missed a birthday card or special event in my life. Grandpa was so special to me I had to take him to school for show and tell in grade 3. He was my show and tell!! Like Carlyn said he always had time for you, to share a smile or hug, or anything really that you needed. There are tears of sadness in his passing mixed with joyful ones for so many great laughs and memories. The neatest thing is that there is still so much passed on from grandpa, to dad, to my brother, but also to my son Will. Will has so many of Grandpa’s mannerisms from the way he walks, to the way he stands and sort of rocks on his feet, to the way he puts his hands on his hips sometimes. It is this beautiful thing where I will forever get glimpses of him as I look at my loved ones. Wishing you and grandma a beautiful reunion. Love you Grandpa

Grandpa Gould became my special "extra" grandpa, when I married his grandson, Ryan Gould. Over the years I got to know him better and can truly say I feel incredibly blessed to have known him, to have had him in my life and called him my honorary grandpa, a title not just in name, but a very well earned place in my heart. He was also a fondly loved great grandpa to Ryan and I's sons, Gus & Evan. When I think of Grandpa, I recall his spirit in every visit. We were always treated to a grand smile, a big hug, great stories, a full heart and many facts about history and family that he could recall without hesitation. He took the time to send and respond to many emails with me and the boys over the years, sharing moments from the past, photos, historical facts and of course he never missed a special note for birthdays or other special occasions.
I can recall several beautiful summers out at the Shuswap lake where Grandpa and Grandma were there. Grandpa floating in the water enjoying the cool down watching the kids, or sitting around the dining table sharing great company & good food with family and friends. He rarely missed out on his daily walk on the beach with his picker stick to find hidden treasures.
Last summer, July 2022, we hosted a family camping weekend. Grandpa came, as did much of the extended family, the grand kids, great grand kids, kids and the spouses too. I remember how beautiful the day was with cousins running & playing in the mud with their rainboots, the bon fire a blazing as the adults visited and shared a potluck meal. Lots of laughter, love and memories were made and shared that day and I recall looking at Grandpa smiling, in all his glory, just taking it all in and enjoying every moment of it. I know I too took the time to just take it all in and appreciate how special it was to have us all right there together. We even got a great family photo (attached) to preserve the memory forever in time.
Our last visit with Grandpa was just a few short weeks ago. We were in town running errands and thought, we should call and see if Grandpa is around for a visit. He was. We visited him at his room at Spruce View. As always he had a big grin, loving hugs, shared stories and pictures, even had some National Geographics and a smarties treat ready for the boys when we got there. His door included a few momentos and a picture of one of our horses, Cruz. A beautiful gesture he shared with pride. We enjoyed our visit with him so much. We did not know that would be the last visit, but it will always be a memory I hold close. A great last memory and visit with an amazing Grandpa and Great Grandpa. That is one beautiful gift Grandpa gave our family, and it was TIME. Grandpa always made a point of making TIME for the memories, for the family and the visits. He knew what was most important in life and he lived that every day. He was never too busy and because of that our kids had the opportunity to get to know and enjoy spending time making happy memories with their great grandpa.
Grandpa will be missed but I am forever grateful for the time we had with him, the smiles we witnesses, the hugs felt, the memories made alongside him, and the honor I have had to call him my Grandpa and our kids Great Grandpa. In closing I will leave a quote that is near and dear to my heart, "How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard."
Rest in peace Grandpa and I will endeavor to pass along the spirit of your gratitude, your joyous heart and the time you shared with us.

Sincere condolences to the Gould family. We have fond memories of Claude and Vivian at Seymour Arm. And in the recent years we would always be greeted with Claude’s warm smile. He was a good and genuine person and will be missed.

Our heartfelt condolence's to the Gould family. It was an honor to have met such a lovely man - he always greeted us with a big hello and a big smile - his joy of life was infectious - as was his penchant for planting "gold" colored rocks in our yard at the lake - all to bring a little smile for whoever would find them....a wonderful man who has no doubt left many with wonderful memories -

I am so sorry for your loss to the entire Gould family. Hold all his memories close to your heart. Don’t cry because it’s over smile because it happened….. he always had a smile for everyone. Sending the very biggest hugs to all of you and much love. I will miss him and our chats. Andrea Bell & family

The Garnet Watson Family would like to send our deepest sympathies and condolences to the Gould Families. We have great memories of summer vacations out at the Shuswap. Also, Claude always came into the Forestry Office to say hello when he was visiting some office at the Provincial Building. It was always such a pleasure to see him. He always had a smile on his face. He will be greatly missed.

Dad always loved flying ..........seeing the world from a different perspective. Especially flights over and through the mountains. You feel very humbled by the greatness around you. Like God is showing you some of his most special places. Sights few have seen and the beauty that can bring tears to your eyes..........and has.
Their is nothing more beautiful than nature. Thanks for being my father and allowing me to be all I could be.

Claude loved to be with family , I remember his smile as he watched the grandchildren and great grandchildren play at the farm of Michel and Cheri Gaultier , he had stories he would share as he was always carving on a piece of willow to make a walking stick and he often wrote a special message on it , I have one of those sticks and will cherish it as much as the person who made it. Family and friends were the one thing that made him special

I can not remember a time when the Gould name was not part of my life. From the times of the Gould Insurance business in Sangudo to Real Estate in Mayerthorpe and Whitecourt, Claude was always a gentleman, friendly and a pleasure to visit with. Rarely is a person so dedicated and committed to the betterment of his community.
In later years we met during Church functions and later yet we connected with our interest in local history.
So sorry for the loss to the family and community. His memory will live on and on.
