Doraine Yvonne Marie Ganske October 16, 1938 – March 12, 2023 With tremendous sadness but hearts filled with lasting memories, the family of Doraine Yvonne Marie Ganske announce her peaceful passing on Sunday, March 12, 2023 at the Drayton Valley Hospital and Care Center. There is comfort in knowing the storms of this life have passed for Doraine, and she is at peace. An extraordinary wife, mom, grandmother, sister, and friend will be forever remembered. Born in Beaumont, Alberta and raised on a mink farm in Widewater, AB; Doraine moved to Drayton Valley as a young teen to live with her older sister Beatrice. It was there that she met the man of her dreams, a local lad by the name of Howard Ganske. They married, raised their family, and lived their entire lives in this little town. Doraine lived a full life that was no short of adventures, travelling to several countries with Howard by her side. When she wasn’t abroad, she loved bingo and was an avid supporter of the game! She also enjoyed curling (particularly bonspiels), building puzzles, doing crosswords, and playing cards and games with family and friends. Many wintery Friday nights were spent at the Legion playing pull-tickets and meat-draws with Howard with a tableful of friends. Doraine and Howard loved to spend the summer days together fishing at Buck Lake followed by late nights around the campfire singing and laughing. Doraine loved to laugh, especially if it was her silly soulmate, Howard, putting that smile on her face; they were inseparable and did most everything together - an epic love story. Much of her later life was filled with the joy and pride of being a Grandmother, her three girls meant the world to her. Doraine will live on in the cherished memories of her soulmate and husband of 65 years, Howard; children, Roger (Debra), Terry, Janice (Scott); grandchildren, Kaylie, Jenna, and Cori (James); siblings, Ida, Jerry (Joan), Rudy (Fern), Donald, and Gloria; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and many life-long friends. Doraine was predeceased by her parents, Marguerite and Amie Hinse; siblings, Robert, Beatrice, Sylvia, Lillian, Thelma, and Clarence; brothers-in-law, Romeo and Gerry and niece, Donna, and her especially cherished friends that all lived on in her heart. Doraine’s family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Ryan White for the exceptional care shown to Doraine, and to the hospital staff in acute care at Drayton Valley Hospital and Care Center for the compassion and care given to Doraine during her stay. A special shout out to the amazing humans who work at Season’s Retirement Community, your compassion will always be appreciated.
