Obituary of Daniel James Fitzgerald

Daniel James Fitzgerald March 9, 1957– February 23, 2023 It is with deep sadness, we announce the passing of Daniel James Fitzgerald of Whitecourt, Alberta on February 23, 2023 at the age of 65 years. Daniel took great pride in his career. For many years, he worked as a safety consultant in the oil and gas industry, working hard to provide for his family. Daniel embraced the simple things in life. When he wasn’t at work, you could often find him enjoying a day out fishing or catching an Edmonton Oilers hockey game. Daniel will be lovingly remembered and missed dearly by his devoted spouse Rita Colley; children Michael Colley, Shawn (Vanessa) Colley, Elicia Colley (Brandon Hoffarth). Grandchildren; Haedyn, Maceyn, Dominic, Sierra, Logan, Ryder, Makayla, Tristan, Ella, Hadley and Kamryn; siblings Joyce (Gary) Keleher, Judy (Brian) Onishenko, Gary (Eva) Fitzgerald as well as numerous extended family members. Daniel is now rejoined with his parents Theresa and Gerald Fitzgerald and grandparents. Cremation has taken place and no formal services will take place at this time. Daniels family would like to express their heartfelt thank you to all the nurses and staff at the Whitecourt Healthcare Centre, Dr. Joseph, Whitecourt Homecare as well as the staff at Hilltop High School for all the care and compassion that has been displayed to the family throughout these difficult times. THE LAST BATTLE If it should be that I grow weak and pain should keep me from my sleep. Then you must do what must be done, for this last battle cannot be won. You will be sad, I understand. Don't let your grief then stay your hand. For this day more than all the rest, your love for me must stand the test. We've had so many happy years, what is to come can hold no fears. You'd not want me to suffer so. The time has come, please let me go. Take me where my needs they'll tend and please stay with me until the end. Hold me firm and speak to me, until my eyes no longer see. I know in time that you will see, the kindness that you did for me. Please do not grieve - it must be you Who has this painful thing to do. We've been so close all these years, don't let your heart hold back its tears.
