Please share a memory of Annie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Annie (Scrybalo) Capaniuk September 6, 1926 – January 25, 2023 “Live for tomorrow and be glad you have today” by Annie Capaniuk It is with great sadness we announce the passing of a beautiful mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, and dear friend to many, Annie Capaniuk. Annie closed her eyes for the last time on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at the age of 96 years. When she was 5, Annie, along with her mother and brother, migrated from Poland by climbing over treacherous mountains and hiding in between furnaces on a ship, carrying a blanket full of necessities, in order to join Annie’s dad in Canada. Annie called Alder Flats her home ever since. It was there she met and married Max. Annie lived at her homestead in Alder Flats right up to November 2022, where she then found her new home at Season’s Retirement Community in Drayton Valley. In her spare time, Annie enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and doing jigsaw puzzles. Annie was a social butterfly who was always ready for a good chat and an even better cup of coffee. Annie loved to be in her garden, and you could find her there well into her 80’s bent from the hips, weeding. For those that had the privilege of golfing with her, they will remember her by being a constant chatter box before, during, and after her shots; yet, still managing to “smack” a good one right down the center of the fairway. She will be mostly remembered by her loved ones for her exquisite talent in making and decorating the most beautiful cakes (especially wedding cakes); and, for making the best perogy, cabbage rolls and cinnamon nalysnyky. Annie’s greatest passion, however, was her family, especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her great-great grand children, one of which is blind. Annie, was obsessed in finding a cure for her great-great granddaughter’s blindness and, even until her last hours, was still vocalizing her concern. Annie will be cherished and greatly missed by her children, Garry (Elnora) and Shari; grandchildren, Tammy (Jason) Nelson and Ken (Karen) Capaniuk; great-grandchildren, Trysten O’Byrne, Kassidy, Jaiden, and Taylor (Dexa) Capaniuk, and Tayven Nelson; great-great grandchildren, Blakely and Paisley O’Byrne; nephew Larry (Diana) Scrybalo; nieces, Louise (Vince) Schauerte, and Connie (Blaine) Haukedal and their families; and dear friends, Reno and Sylvia Maciborski. Annie is predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Max; her brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Delia; and her parents, John and Sophie. Annie’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Season’s Retirement Community in Drayton Valley. At this time, there will be no formal service; however, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Blakely’s name, in honor of Annie, at Servus Credit Union, Drayton Valley.
