Obituary of Phyllis "Phyl" Elsie Kupsch

Phyllis “Phyl” Elsie Kupsch (neé Hart) 1941 - 2022 With heavy hearts we announce the passing of a wonderful woman who was known as fun, devoted to her family, friends, community, and students and so generous with her time and love to all. Phyllis Elsie Kupsch, long-time resident of Drayton Valley passed away in the comfort of her home Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at the age of 81 years. From Canso, Nova Scotia, Phyl arrived out West when she was 21 years old to teach at the Lodgepole school. After getting married and then moving to Drayton Valley she taught kindergarten at various schools in town, ending her more than 40-year career at Eldorado School, teaching the children and even grandchildren of some of her earlier students! As a loyal friend, she was always up for a great time, a good glass of wine, live music and perhaps a little mischief. Phyl enjoyed and appreciated all her life had to offer, overcoming many obstacles with a never give up approach. Always up for an adventure, Phyl travelled to many destinations, but there was nothing like going home to Nova Scotia to be with family, friends and the salty ocean air. Phyllis will always be loved and remembered by her husband, Elmer Kupsch; children, Scott (Janice) Kupsch and Shelley (Larry) Ostertag; grandchildren, each of which she had a special bond, Shayla, Kaylie, Cori (James Pond), Samuel and Izzy; brothers, George and Donald (Phyllis) Hart; sister-in-law, Sandy Hart, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends who she fiercely loved. Phyl is predeceased by her parents, Scott and Mary Hart; brothers, Sidney and Keith Hart; sister-in-law, Gertie Hart, and many cherished and deeply loved friends. Her beautiful life will be celebrated at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #269, 5204 51 Avenue, Drayton Valley, Alberta on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. with interment to follow at Riverview Cemetery.
