Obituary of Doug Schaffer

Please share a memory of Doug to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Douglas Edward Schaffer August 6, 1962 – August 25, 2022 It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our dear husband, father, son, brother, uncle and great friend Douglas Schaffer at the age of 60 years. Doug was a wonderful man with a heart of gold. He was a trusted mentor to all that knew him, with very strong morals and work ethics. Doug loved his career in the oilfield, it didn’t matter if you were the CEO or a labourer everyone was important in his eyes. His family meant the world to him, Doug let them know every day. He loved hunting and fishing and truly had a passion for being in the outdoors. Doug’s name will never be forgotten, the impact he has made in so many lives will live on. Doug will be forever loved and remembered by his wife of 31 years Cindy, children Nolan Schaffer-Thomson and Courtney (Larry) Gering, mother Anne Schaffer, siblings Brenda (Larry) Summach, John Schaffer (Barb Jorgensen), Murray (Roxanne) Schaffer, Grant (Traci) Schaffer and Kim (Geoff) Strydhorst, numerous nieces and nephews that he loved very much as well as his work family. He is predeceased by his father Dave Schaffer and niece Michelle Goetz. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday September 7, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at the Westward Community Centre with a luncheon to follow. From the bottom of our hearts, the biggest thank you goes to the medics as well as to the people who were there with Doug during his final moments. All your efforts in helping have not gone unnoticed and we are forever grateful. Another huge thank you to everyone who has sent wishes, messages and brought food for the family. The thoughtfulness throughout the community has been outstanding and we appreciate everyone. At the time of Doug’s passing, he was in the process of building a beautiful retirement cabin for him and his wife Cindy. Although he won’t be here to see the final product, we will go on to make Doug proud by making his dream come true by continuing to build in his glorious memory. To contribute to the cabin fund a trust account in Cindy’s name is available at Servus Credit Union, Whitecourt, email transfer will be accepted by sending to courtneyschaffer@live.com.
