Obituary of Mike Smyl

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a remarkable husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Mike Smyl of Whitecourt, Alberta at the age of 89 years. Mike had a strong passion for music. This began early in life and grew much fonder at the age of 16 years old when he got his first accordion. He loved to share this passion with his children and grandchildren, as moments spent with them were most important to him. When Mike met the love of his life Karen, he instantly knew this was the woman he was meant to spend the rest of his life with. Mike and Karen were blessed with more then 59 years of marriage and four beautiful children. He was a loyal brother, a loving father, and a deeply adored husband. Mike will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Karen Smyl, children Brenda (Leonard) Sanche, Tina (Tom) Pickard, Audrey Smyl and Darren (Andrea) Smyl, grandchildren Dagny, Caellen, Adam, Patrick, Kelly, Haley, Jeffrey, Danny, Madison, Fallon and Cooper, brothers, Leonard Smyl, John Smyl, Henry Smyl, Joe (Maureen) Smyl, sister Eileen Junck, as well many extended family members. Mike is predeceased by his parents Egaacy and Zofia Smyl as well as brothers Bernard Smyl, Florian Smyl and George Smyl. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to all the doctors, nurses and healthcare aids at the Whitecourt Health Care Centre, as well as a special thank you to Dr. Aneke and Dr. Jane, for all of the care and support provided to Mike and his family.
