Obituary of Clayton Hines

Please share a memory of Clayton to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Clayton Darrell Hines March 14, 1958 – June 15, 2022 It is with great sadness that the children of Clayton Darrell Hines announce his passing on June 15, 2022, in Drayton Valley, Alberta. Clayton was a man with a keen sense of humor, as well as a strong competitive spirit. This competitive spirit, combined with his great love of horses, paved the way for his success in the rodeo arena. He rode his first bucking horse before he could drive. Riding in the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association and Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association circuits for over ten years Clayton found great success, twice achieving the honor of being named the Canadian Saddle Bronc Champion at the Canadian Finals Rodeo. In 2010 Clayton was inducted into the Canadian Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame. After retiring from pro rodeo Clayton found a new passion in the reined cowhorse pen. Starting in 2010 with his first cow horse “Smartie”, he found great success showing on the non-pro circuits throughout Canada and the US. He was a true horseman at heart, who enjoyed learning and sharing his knowledge. Clayton instilled a love of the western lifestyle in his children. He supported and coached his daughter and son throughout their high school, college, and amateur rodeo days. Clayton was proud of his kids for all their accomplishments and was always willing to provide truthful feedback. He liked to socialize with friends and give them a hard time; all the better if a hand of poker was being played. Clayton is survived by his children; Cory (Stephanie) and Amber (Brandin), his grandchildren; Easton and Cooper, his parents; George and Dolly, and his siblings; Diana (Pete), Sherry, Charlene, Stoney (Tanya), Melissa (Curtis), Krissy, and Dustin (Rachel). Clayton was predeceased by his wife Susan. Cory and Amber would like to thank the nurses and the doctors working in Palliative Care at the Drayton Valley Hospital for the care given to their dad as well as family and friends for their support. For those who so desire, memorial contributions in Clayton’s name, be made directly to the Palliative Care Project at the Drayton Valley Hospital and Care Centre, or the Canadian Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame. A Celebration of Life for Clayton will be held on the weekend of July 9th, 2022, at the Whitby Hall, Brazeau County.
