Obituary of Ivie Miriam Selin

Please share a memory of Ivie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ivie Miriam Selin (Torvinen) January 24, 1931 – May 14, 2022 With love and gratitude for a long life well lived, the family of Ivie Selin said good bye to their tiny, tenacious matriarch on May 14, 2022. Ivie was the first born to Terho and Impi Torvinen (nee Hill) on January 24, 1931 in Wetaskiwin, Alberta and grew up on a farm in the Usona area. In 1954, Ivie married James Selin from Hay Lakes. In 1962, a transfer with Imperial Oil brought them to Drayton Valley, where they raised their family. Ivie was a dedicated homemaker and an excellent seamstress, which lead to being part owner of “The Sewing Basket”. Ivie and James had fun curling, golfing and socializing with the good friends they made over the years. They also enjoyed traveling to Sweden, Australia, New Zealand and Fiji. Sadly, James passed at the young age of 63 leaving Ivie a widow but she remained resilient. She moved off their acreage in Rocky Rapids and into a house she built in town. Ivie continued to curl into her 70’s and golfed into her 80’s and never lost her competitive spirit. She still enjoyed traveling and even more so when it was to visit her treasured grandchildren in Australia, Fort St John or Calgary. Ivie was the last one standing of her family. She was predeceased by her father Terho when she was only 16. Her mother Impi, sister Elsie, brother Stanley and sister Doreen also passed way too young. Ivie never complained or wallowed in sorrow after losing her loved ones. She remained stoic and gracious to the very end. Ivie leaves behind her four children Wayne (Judy) Carey, Cameron (Joanne), Corinne (Barry); seven treasured grandchildren James (Julie), Scott (Twyla), Joelle (Shane), Cassandra, Alyssa, Adam and Lucas; eight great-grandchildren, Tanner, Brianne, Cheyenne, Brooke, Shaiden, Kiara, Kallie and Brody; brother in-law, Wymand (Irene), sisters in-law Ruby and Vivian as well as many special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family sincerely thanks her nephew and Godson, Greg and the multiple caregivers for their tender care making it possible for her to remain in her home until the end. She lived her life her way. A celebration of Ivie’s well-lived and well-loved life will take place on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at 2:00 pm, at the Life Church, 5115 50 Avenue, Drayton Valley, Alberta.
