Obituary of Darlene Mary McGillis

Darlene Mary McGillis June 30, 1951 – May 8, 2022 It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of Darlene McGillis on May 8, 2022 at the age of 70 years. Darlene had many joys in her life as there was never a dull moment while you were with her. From enjoying delicious homemade cakes and pies to singing along to a classic song… usually by the Beatles, there were always great memories being made. If you knew Darlene, you would know how much she loved to decorate as the holidays were her favourite time of the year. She took great pride in ensuring her Christmas tree and house were perfectly decorated. This also went for any other holiday where there was a chance to decorate. You could often find Darlene spending lots of time tending to her gorgeous flowers. She would make the most beautiful flower arrangements for everyone to admire. Jumping in the vehicle and taking a drive was a great pastime for Darlene. She loved turning up the music to take a ride around town, or she would have fun finding new routes to discover. Darlene loved her family. Spending time with her grandchildren and watching them grow brought so much happiness and light into her life. Darlene also had a great relationship with the Lord. She loved her bible and reading scripture. Knowing that she is now at peace and has met the Lord, brings the family great comfort. Darlene is survived by her children Lorelei (Steve) Genest and Brittany (Allen) Bakaas, grandchildren Ryan, Corgan, Lincoln, Xander, Autumn and Cashes, siblings Jim McGillis, Gillis Dumais, Duane (Rose) Dumais and Lisa (Jim) Montgomery as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her father Rosaire McGillis, mother and stepfather Lorraine and Bernard Marchand as well as grandparents Arthur and Marie Lacerte and Emanuel Caplette. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 4th, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at the Family Worship Centre, Whitecourt, Alberta with Pastor Dallas officiating. The family would like to express their thank you to Loreena Griffith and Rosalie Thon for their care, compassion and overall loving friendship towards Darlene.
