Obituary of Candis Elaine McKay

Candis Elaine McKay December 30, 1948 – March 20, 2022 It is with sorrowful hearts that the family of Candis McKay announce her passing at Breton Long-term Care on Sunday, March 20, 2022 at the age of 73 years. Candis will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 37 years, Fred Baumback; her children, Trevor (Rhonda), Tara, Roy (Kasia), Kylie (Sascha) and her nephew Deveron; her grandchildren, Shyanne, Warren, Victoria, Walker and Greg. Candis will also be greatly missed by her siblings, Reid (Bertha), Deveron (Brenda), Gary, Teresa (Ken), John (Betty), Laurie (Wayne), Gordon (Suzanne), Jean (Fred), Shad, Scott, Kylie (Bill), JR (Jody) and Kristine. Candis also leaves Barb Chidley, along with other extended family to celebrate the gift of her life. She is predeceased by her parents, Roy McKay and Elaine Jacksaw; her brother Corby and sister Jean, along with her grandparents, John and Mary and Edmund and Marion. The family will always cherish Candis’s giving heart and how proud she was of her Metis heritage. She accomplished so many things in her journey here, but the family are especially proud of her being the first female Fire Chief and Air Traffic Controller in Ocean Falls, British Columbia. She had a passion for babies, books and the renewal of springtime. She loved to dance and to pass on her knowledge of herbal and medicinal plants. But beyond all these passions, her greatest passion was always for her family and friends. Candis will be greatly missed, but never forgotten. The family wishes to express their gratitude to all the staff at Breton Care Center, for all the kind and caring ways they looked after Candis during her time there. A celebration of Candis’ life will take place on April 9, 2022, at 2:00 pm, in Liberty Hall, Bluffton, Alberta. The hall is just off Highway 611, between Range Roads 23 and 24.
